Two thrillers for Hawks

The Danville varsity boys opened area play Friday night at Good Hope by holding on for a 56-55 win on the road, it’s second thrilling win of the week.

After trailing 17-10 in first quarter, the Hawks took a lead into the half, 30-28.

Justin Morgan led the Hawks in the win with 17 points followed in double figures by Kyle Alexander with 14 and Patrick Doherty with 13.

Slater Robinson had nine. Justin Tomlinson had two points while Tyler Fields added one.

For Good Hope, Alex Cofer led all scorers with 18. Eli Marty added 13 while Andrew Cofer finished with 10.

The win came just three nights after Danville defeated county rival West Morgan 85-84 in triple overtime on a 3-pointer by Evans, who finished with nine points on the night.

The Hawks overcame an 11-point halftime deficit.

Doherty led the Hawks with 23 points including six 3-pointers followed by Morgan with 19 and Tomlinson with 11.

Robinson added nine points. Other scorers were Alexander with seven, Fields with five and Tyler Jolley with two.

Brandon Roberts led the Rebels in defeat with 28, the first time he was held under 30 in a game this season. Dustin Morgan finished with 14 while Peyton Mullican and Caleb Hazen each had 10.

The hard fought game left both teams shorthanded due to foul trouble. Danville had three foul out while West Morgan had two foul out.
