Man charged with having sex with 14-year-old girl

A 22-year-old Hartselle man is facing charges of rape after having sex with a 14-year-old Decatur girl he met on Facebook.

James Hubert Overton of 36 Bowles Bridge Road in Hartselle was arrested by the Decatur Police Department and was charged with second degree rape and enticing a child for immoral purposes, both felony offenses. When satisfying his misdemeanor warrants, the suspect will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail and be held on a $7,500 bond.

Decatur Police said James Hubert Overton drove to the girl’s residence on July 17, picked her up and drove her to the Parkway Inn and Suites in Decatur, where Overton rented a motel room. Decatur Police said Overton and the girl engaged in sexual intercourse.

On Thursday, Overton turned himself in to the Decatur Police Department on several unrelated misdemeanor warrants. Police detectives questioned the suspect about the incident and subsequently arrested.
