Summer reading program begins in July

Happy wedding anniversary wishes go out to Joe and Rachel Slate of Hartselle. They will celebrate their 62nd anniversary on Sun., July 1.

They both graduated from the former Morgan County High School in 1948 and married two years later. I wish both of you God’s blessing and many more happy years as husband and wife.

Falkville Public Library welcomes everyone to its “Summer Reading Program” on Tuesday nights during the month of July. Sessions are scheduled on July 10, 17 and 24 at 2 p.m. in the Falkville Town Hall Courtroom and on July 31at 6 p.m. at South Park.

On July 10, the program will kick off with registration, singing and a story about ghosts. Refreshments will be served. On July 17, Jeannie Alexander will sing “Moons and Stars” and teach the song to attendees.

On July 24, Ranger Daphne from the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge will present a show on ‘Night Critters” and share stories about owls, bats, etc. A picnic is planned for the final session, along with a presentation of awards.

Everyone is invited to take advantage of the library this summer. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Shady Grove Baptist Church conducted its vacation Bible school, “Amazing Wonders Aviation” June 3-7 with an enrollment of 67 and an average attendance of 49. An offering of $801.23 was collected for Annie Armstrong missions.

Bible school workers were Stoshia Logan, Heather Roden, Mildred Lake, Ginger Campbell, Abby Campbell, Christa Campbell, Andrew Terry, Tricia O’Kelley, Crystal Carter, Karen Callahan, Jada Callahan, Sydney Alred, JoAnn Alexander, Nell Dobbins, Doris Clark, Levonia Gillott, Helen Alred, Beth Gray, Bari Camper, Pat McCleskey, Helen Taylor, Diann Alexander, Julie Campbell, Janice Hargett, Gail Lamon, Dale Boyd, Sandra Roden, Rachel Terry, Shay Terry, Cissy Locklear, Sarah Logan, Cary Lacy, Carden Roden, Andrea Carter, James Roden, Kim Parker, Jenna Locklear, Lori and Summer McGuire, Mary Terry, Amy Lacy, Nik Newell, Mike and Kelly McLamb, Betty Boyd, Tom Campbell, Patrick Doherty, Matthew Terry, Justin Turrentine and Hunter LaRoche. Other church youth also helped.

Shady Grove Baptist Church members express Christian love and prayers this week for the following troops and their families: Brandon Jones, Derek Jones, Aaron Money, Jack C. Herbert, John Black, Jeffrey Green, Robert Green, Wes Parker, Anthony Thomas, Matthew Young, Lee Thompson, Brad Wallace and Jeremy White.
