Night under the sea

Some of the volunteers and donors for the prom included People’s Bank, a photographer and Tim Walker, who deejayed the event and provided lights and sound.

Edwards said each of the attendees received a portrait with them wearing either a Mr. or Miss Prom sash.

Volunteers from the community donated food, although Edwards said it was difficult to get the prom-goers to stop and eat.

“They just enjoyed dancing so much that it was difficult to get them to stop long enough to eat something,” Edwards said. “They were having such a great time.”

Edwards said this is something that everyone looks forward to throughout the year.

“One of them asked me in January when they were going to get their invitation to the prom,” Edwards said. “I said it was going to come in the mail shortly.

“This is something they look forward to. Some of them enjoy getting to dress up while others have to work and come dressed how they are. We won’t turn anyone away. Plus, some of the parents can just leave them there and go do something on their own for a little while. It gives them a break.”

Edwards said this, along with their Christmas Extravaganza, is something her group wants to continue doing for a long time.

“Everyone just has a blast,” Edwards said. “Everyone pitches in to make this a success. There’s no way we could do this without all of those who volunteer their time or donate money, food and anything we need.”
