Danville splits opening games of area

Danville will face the winner of today’s Elkmont vs. Clements loser’s bracket game for a trip to the Class 3A Regional Tournament in Huntsville next week.

The game has been scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday. The winners of that game will play West Morgan, who is hosting the tournament, at 6 p.m. in the Area 15 championship round. A final game will be played at 8 p.m. if West Morgan loses the 6 p.m. game.

The Lady Hawks advanced to the loser’s bracket final by splitting its first two area tournament games.

Danville 5, Clements 4 (9)

Danville went to extra innings to defeat Clements Thursday night. Danville took a 2-0 lead in the second inning before Clements rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the third inning.

The Lady Hawks went back ahead 4-3 in the sixth inning before Clements tied it in the seventh inning.

Neither team scored in the eighth inning, but Danville got the walk-off win in the ninth inning.

Lindsey Vinzant went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Bailey King and Shelby Beck both had two hits. Beck had a double while King had an RBI and run scored.

Jada Callahan, Michelle Clem, Hanna-Grace Sherrill and Kellee Stiles all had hits in the win. Clem scored twice while Sherrill had two RBIs and Callahan had one run.

Savannah Bolton allowed two earned runs on 10 hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

West Morgan 8, Danville 1

Three errors by the Lady Hawks allowed West Morgan to score four unearned runs.

Keri Callahan took the loss allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Morgan Weatherwax, who hit a triple, scored Danville’s only run on a Vinzant RBI single.

Clem and Sherrill both had two hits while Jada Callahan had one hit.
