Lady Hawks come in second at Haleyville

Danville (31-24) finished runner-up to Hatton in the Haleyville tournament.

In pool play, Danville defeated Cordova 25-12, 25-14 and Parrish 25-15, 25-14. Haleyville beat Danville 25-20, 26-24.

In the semifinals, Danville took down Carbon Hill 25-20, 25-18 but fell to Hatton 25-21, 25-22.

Sydni Shelton led the team with 56 kills, nine blocks, 13 aces and 31 digs. Haley Rae Garnett had 84 assists while Jada Callahan 26 kills and 25 digs. Jesse Oliver and Megan Luker added six blocks each. Kelsey Alvis collected seven aces. Keri Callahan finished with 42 digs.

Danville loses competitive match to Hatton

Hatton defeated Danville (31-24) Tuesday night 25-23, 18-25, 33-31, 25-20.

“We had our chances,” Danville coach Spencer Cole said of the long set. “I made a few personnel mistakes or we might’ve gotten it.  It was exciting.  Hopefully we learned something from it.”

In the marathon third set, Danville rallied from a 21-15 deficit to tie the game at 24-24.

Sydni Shelton led the Lady Hawks with 21 kills, six blocks and three aces. Haley Rae Garnett had 11 kills, 33 assists and three blocks.

Keri Callahan added 12 digs followed by Jada Callahan with three aces and Jessica Hogan with three blocks.

Danville will compete in the county tournament Thursday.
