Some trivia for the class of 2011

Mom’s corner

Although I don’t have a child graduating this year, I do know several of the graduates.  I thought they might be interested in looking back at some statistics and trivia from when they were born.  First of all, in case you are interested your average life span is about 75 years old, so you have used roughly 23 percent of your life.
The average cost of a house in 1993 was $113,000 compared to $232,000 today.   The average income in 1993 was $31,000. A gallon of gas was about $1.16 and movie tickets were $4.50.
For computer geeks:  The Pentium microprocessor is introduced as is Windows NT 3.1.
Other technology news:  Dyson sells the first bagless vacuum. First cloning of a human embryo.
For sports fans:  World Series is won by Toronto Blue Jays. NBA Champions were Chicago Bulls.  The Dallas Cowboys won the Superbowl.
The biggest movies for 1993 were “Jurassic Park,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “The Fugitive” and “The Firm.” The Best Film Oscar Winner was “Schindler’s List.”  Some of the most popular songs were “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston, “A Whole New World” by Peabo Bryson & Regina Belle and “Dreamlover” and “Hero” by Mariah Carey.
Most popular Christmas gifts Power Ranger action figures, 1850s Southern Belle Barbie, Batgirl gift sets, Beanie Babies were first released, Magic the Gathering role playing card game.
Most Popular Quotes:  “Got Milk?” – California Milk Processor Board, and “The truth is out there.” – X-Files.
My advice to graduates is this: Decide what you want out of life, where you want to be and how to get there, then do it!
Congratulations Hartselle High School Class of 2011.  We wish you the best!
