Swamp John fundraiser Saturday

Danville Fire Station #1 will host a “Swamp John” fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 19, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The price is $10 per meal, which includes a choice of catfish, chicken or shrimp. You’re invited to come help the fire department and enjoy good food at the same time.
Morgan County forester Robert Maddox was guest speaker at the Morgan County volunteer Fire Department Associational meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 8. He reported the hardwood tree seedlings would be given away at the Morgan County Forestry Office in Decatur (next to the State Troopers Post) on Friday. Feb. 18 beginning at 9 a.m.  He said each individual will be able to receive three to four seedlings for transplanting on their property. The seedlings include shumard oak, live oak, Japanese maple, red maple, crepe myrtle, sawtooth oak, Chickasaw plum. River birch, beauty berry, Chinese dogwood, nuttall oak, red bud, green ash, white mulberry and bald cypress. Everyone is urged to support the Forestry Department so that our grandchildren and their children will always have trees to enjoy.
A LifeSouth blood drive will be held at Shady Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, Feb. 20, from 1 to 5 p.m., Please come and donate blood. Remember, the life you save may be your own.
The association meeting of Morgan County volunteer Fire Departments was well attended on February 8.The following departments were represented: Bethel-Gum Pond, Brindlee Mountain, Cotaco, Danville, Ebenezer, Eva, Falkville, Flint, Florette, Lacey’s Spring,Massey, Priceville, Punkin Center, Rock Creek, Somerville, Tulacah, Tri-County and Trinity.
President Stanley Linder man called the meeting to order and discussions were conducted concerning the wearing of turnout gear when responding to vehicle accidents. The discussion also included vests for the protection of fire fighters and award nomination forms were turned in. The fire fighters were also reminded not to respond to a fire in another district unless called on for backup assistance. The next meeting will be held Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m.

Special happy wedding anniversary wishes go out to Harold and Peggy Holloway who will observe their 50th anniversary on Feb. 19 and Eddie and Gloria Dotson who will observe their 40th anniversary on Feb.19.
Danville-Neel Elemen-tary School’s beauty walks winners for kindergarten through second grade are Ellie Tucker, queen; Natalie Cartee, first runner-up; Alison Wiley, second runner-up; and Madalynn Lambert, third runner-up. Miss Photogenic was Alyssa Brooks.
A special thank you goes out to Danville-Neel’s PTO for raising $975 from their Box Tops fundraiser and $700 from the Santa Shop fundraiser. Some of the money was used to purchase six walkie talkies for the use of teachers.
