Hartselle falls in finals of Brewer Classic

FLORETTE – Hartselle’s run in the Brewer Volleyball Classic was derailed by Addison in the championship game Saturday afternoon at Brewer High School.
Addison beat the Lady Tigers 25-17, 25-16 in the championship to go through the tournament undefeated.
The loss was the second at the hands of Addison in three days.
Hartselle opened the tournament with a 25-20, 19-25, 15-12 win over Danville.
The Lady Tigers also beat Good Hope 25-19, 25-11, Geraldine 25-17, 25-13 and Madison Academy 19-25, 25-19, 15-9.
Olivia Golden had a team-high 41 kills in the win. She also added 51 digs, three aces and two blocks.
Chelsea Bennich had 64 digs, six aces and an assist in the tournament.
Katelynn Hill had 28 digs, five blocks and eight digs, while Savanne Howard finished with 57 assists, nine kills, four aces, 14 digs and a block.
Elizabeth Russell had 35 assists, five aces and 10 digs. Kaylee Shelton and Taylor Lybarger had 17 and 13 kills respectively for the Lady Tigers.
Danville finished 1-2 in pool play and did not reach bracket play.
The Lady Hawks lost to Hartselle and Good Hope. Danville’s lone win came against Geraldine 25-22, 26-28, 15-12.
Lindsay Simmons finished the tournament with 36 kills and four aces, while Ashley Nance added 26 kills and five blocks for the Lady Hawks.
Danville also got 44 digs from Lacey Evans. Kaitlin Wallace had 64 assists in the three matches.
Hartselle splits matches
Hartselle opened its season with a win over Curry in a tri-match at Addison last Thursday.
The Lady Tigers beat Curry 25-13, 25-17 but lost to Addison 25-13, 25-22.
Katelynn Hill had 12 kills, two blocks, two digs and an ace in the win. Olivia Golden added six kills, two blocks, eight digs and an ace.
Chelsea Bennich chipped in with nine digs and two aces. Savanne Howard had 15 assists and Elizabeth Russell had 11 assists.
Taylor Lybarger had four kills, while Katie Clark and Haley Jared finished with three and two kills respectively. Kelsey Bonner had an ace and a dig.
Danville sweeps two
Danville opened its season with a 25-23, 29-27 victory over Catholic and a 28-26, 25-17 win over Madison Academy.
Kaitlin Wallace had 40 assists and six aces in the two wins. Lindsay Simmons and Ashley Nance had 19 kills each.
Nance finished with four blocks and Sydni Shelton had three in the win. Lacey Evans finished with 18 digs.
