Hartselle home remodel earns awards

By By Clif Knight, Hartselle Enquirer
A Decatur remodeler’s work on an addition to the Hartselle home of Mike and Stephanie Holmes was judged Best of Show in the 2009 Alabama Remodeling Excellence Awards competition, a project sponsored by the Home Builders Association of Alabama.
Philip Shelton of Shelton Construction Inc. accepted the award at a banquet at the Marriott Legends at Capitol Hill in Prattville March 21. It was given to the building project that scored the highest among all entries. More than 70 projects from across the state were submitted for consideration.
In addition, Shelton received first pace awards in five separate categories. They included the overall addition, a bathroom remodel and an outdoor living upgrade at the Holmes’ residence at 3090 Celestial Drive. The other two were linked to a historic preservation and commercial renovation at 709 Bank Street, the offices of the architectural firm of Schoel, Godwin and Barnett.
Shelton said his interest in entering the Remodeling Excellence Awards competition stemmed from the active role he plays in that organization. He is now serving as its secretary-treasurer.
He added the planning and work that went into the award-winning projects was a team effort.
Shelton established his construction business about 15 years ago as a builder in Belle-Meade Subdivision in Hartselle. He is a member and immediate past president of the Morgan County Home Builders Association. He is also a member of the National Home Builders Association and is a certified Graduate Builder, Graduate Master Builder, Graduate Master Remodeler and Aging and Place Specialist.
