Young wins title

Hartselle’s Yancey Young won an age group title Saturday in the annual Watermelon Festival 5K road race in Russellville.
Young ran a 20:26 to win the men’s 40-44 age group title. He was 12th overall.
Somerville’s Casey Parker finished 16th overall after finishing with a time of 21:14. He was third in the men’s 15-19 age division.
Also finishing in the top 40 Saturday was Danville’s Jonathan Proctor and Hartselle’s Tim Sivley.
Proctor was 33rd overall and second in the men’s 35-29 age group after running the course in 25:50, while Sivley clocked in at 26:00 to finished 36th overall and fourth in the men’s 35-39 age group.
Ramona Cole was 55th overall with a 31:39, while Nikki Felong ran a 34:41 to take 59th place. Alicia Proctor was 62nd overall at 36:31 and Erin Proctor took 63rd with a 36:42.
Five local runners finished in the top 40 spots of the 1-mile run, including seven-year-old Noah Felong, who was 21st overall with a time of 8:09.01. He finished third in his age group.
Jonathan Proctor was 22nd, just .17 of a second behind Felong.
Nicholas Young of Hartselle, 7, finished 24th overall with a time of 8:26.09.
Collin Young, 12, was 26th overall and sixth in his age group with a time of 8:27.84.
Hartselle’s Candice Young was 39th overall with a time of 10:35.98.
