Hartselle donors are the real heroes
Editor:
What a special group of people in Hartselle!! Again your response to the requests of Heroes in Hartselle for the Morgan-Lawrence Chapter of the American Red Cross has been overwhelming.
With the assistance of Mike Lowe, Linda Webster, Mary Ann Reese, Vickie Coulter, Mary Ford Pheny, Laureen Drake with the Les Amies, Kara Robinson with Baker Industry, Sue Kalber with Hartselle Newcomers, Hartselle exceeded its goal. Thank you Heroes for a job well done.
All the funds raised in this campaign will stay in the local Red Cross Chapter. Though chartered by Congress to help people prevent, prepare for, and cope with disaster, the American Red Cross chapters are not funded as a government agency. The Red Cross relies on the compassion, generosity, and trust of our local community for financial support to get the job done. With each dollar raised, a life will be touched. It could be yours.
It isn’t too late to send your financial support. If you would like to contribute to this worthy cause, please send your donation to Heroes for Red Cross, P. O. Box 297, Decatur, AL 35602
Thanks for sharing of your means.

Fight the changes to Medicare D
Editor:
Congress wants to make changes to Medicare Part D that are not in the best interest of the 38 million people enrolled in it. Removing the non-interference clause will fundamentally change the way that Medicare Part D is organized. These changes are just a political maneuver for control and we must not let it happen. Medicare Part D is working very well. So well, that it is one of the most successful programs in history.
The non-interference clause keeps the Medicare Part D a community plan that helps seniors afford medication without having to give up their choice of pharmacy, doctor or medication. Allowing the government to set prices eliminates competition and it is competition that keeps the prices low and the choices plenty.
We need to keep a wide variety of prescription medications and plans. There is no reason to change a program that is working so well and the government has no business interfering with the free market. Write to your Senators and Representatives and say “no” to Congress making changes to Medicare Part D.
Don’t let the government take our choices and freedoms away.
