Hartselle splits against Muscle Shoals in Jan. 2 contests

Hartselle girls 67, Muscle Shoals girls 36
The Lady Tigers led 22-3 after the first quarter and cruised from there on the way to a win over Muscle Shoals at the Pettey Center Jan. 2.
No. 2-ranked Hartselle (16-3) was led by Mary Virginia Reeves' 13 points and 11 rebounds. Lauren Drake added 12 points and nine rebounds and Heather Speegle added 10 points off the bench.
Kathryn Thompson had 14 points to lead Muscle Shoals.
Muscle Shoals boys 56, Hartselle boys 46
The Tigers fell at home Jan. 2 against a tough Muscle Shoals team that beat Hartselle 76-41 on the road earlier in the season.
Hartselle kept the game close early, trailing 12-11 after one quarter and 29-25 at halftime. The Tigers opened the second half on a run to take a 30-29 lead on Ryne Lindsey's three-pointer with 6:31 left in the third quarter, but Muscle Shoals responded with a three of its own and would never trail again.
Muscle Shoals led 43-37 after three quarters and outscored Hartselle 9-3 over the first three minutes of the final period to break the game open. The Trojans improved to 14-2.
Hartselle (9-10) was led by Victor Stansberry's 11 points and Lindsey added 10.
Trey Ethridge had 13 points to lead the Trojans.
West Limestone girls 78, Priceville girls 59
The Lady Bulldogs finished with three players in double figures but it wasn't enough as they dropped a game on the road Jan. 2.
Priceville was led by Marissa Chambers' 17 points. Melissa Johnson had 13 and Keila Hamlin added 11.
Natalie Harrison scored 27 to lead West Limestone.
West Limestone boys 57, Priceville boys 54
Zane Campbell hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send Priceville home with a tough road loss.
Josh Bedwell led Priceville with 26 points, followed by JaColby Reid with 12.
Campbell led the victors with 24 points.
