Revitalization of E.A.R.T.H. Park underway
A revitalization of E.A.R.T.H. Park is in full swing this spring, with community organizations coming together to restore the beloved green space in downtown Hartselle. Spearheaded by the Kiwanis Club of Hartselle, Boy Scout Troop 336 and Girl Scout Troop 325, the project kicked April 5, marking the beginning of an ambitious effort to breathe new life into the park.
Originally designed with an environmental focus, E.A.R.T.H. Park was created to offer visitors a space for relaxation and exploration while encouraging an appreciation for sustainability and the local ecosystem. The park’s initial design included gabion baskets placed along the creek bed, designed to filter water and create sustainable wetlands that would support local wildlife. Over time, the park has seen some wear, but according to Jesi Livingston, who represents the Downtown Hartselle Business League, the goal of the revitalization is to restore it to its original purpose and further enhance its environmental impact.
The project has garnered strong community support, with a variety of local groups stepping up to lend their time and resources. In addition to the Kiwanis Club and scouting troops, other partners in the effort include the DHBL, Hartselle City Beautification, the Hartselle library and others. The community’s involvement is integral to the success of the revitalization, and organizers are encouraging even more volunteers to take part.
As spring progresses, the park will begin to take shape once again, with planned improvements that will allow visitors to better connect with the environment and support the health of the ecosystem. Those interested in getting involved in the revitalization efforts are encouraged to reach out to local organizations or show up at upcoming service days to lend a hand.
