Confidence in Christ
In John 14, Jesus was nearing His final hours, and His time had come. As He approached the cross, He continued to teach and love His disciples, showing them the depth of His care and commitment until the very end. Even in this moment of imminent sacrifice, His focus remained on guiding them, reassuring them, and preparing them for what was to come.
This passage is incredibly comforting because it reveals just how close our relationship with the Creator truly is. Jesus doesn’t just tell us about God’s love; He makes it clear that through Him, we can experience a deep, personal connection with the Father. In these verses, Jesus makes it abundantly clear that He has provided a way for us to connect with Him (14:1-6). He tells His disciples not to be troubled, assuring them that He is going to prepare a place for them and that they will always have a way to be with Him. He explains that through this relationship with Him, we have direct access to the Father (14:7-11). There is no need for barriers or intermediaries; through Christ, we can approach God with confidence.
Furthermore, through this relationship, we are also given access to the Holy Spirit (14:15-18, 25-31). Jesus promises that even though He will no longer be physically present, the Holy Spirit will come to dwell in us, teaching us, reminding us of all He has said, and empowering us to live as His witnesses. This relationship with the Trinity doesn’t just bring us com fort-it also equips us for life’s challenges. But with this closeness comes responsibility. Jesus makes it clear that we are called to represent Him on Earth (14:19-24). We are His ambassadors, tasked with continuing His mission and living out His love and teachings in a world that desperately needs both. What a comfort it is to know that, through Christ, we gain the promise of an eternal home with the Father in Heaven. At the same time, we are entrusted with the task of sharing His message with others while we are still on Earth. Jesus offers us powerful encouragement and strength as He prepares to make His ultimate sacrifice. His words in this chapter are not just a farewell; they are a blueprint for how we are to live in His absence, yet empowered by His Spirit. Have you embraced this incredible relationship with Christ? Are you allowing Him to transform you and to work through you, both for your eternal good and for the good of those around you?
