Morgan County Farmers Federation honored retired Extension Agent-4-H Betty Gottler, awarded five college scholarships and reelected four of its directors at the organization’s annual membership meeting in Hartselle Aug. 15.

Gottler was presented a distinguished service award in recognition of her service to the youth of Morgan County as a 4-H agent. In addition, a $250 donation was made to the Alabama 4-H Foundation in recognition of the extension service’s 100th anniversary.

A $1,500 per year college scholarship was awarded to Lily Oaks and Kourtney Lindsey, both of Danville and Heather Tilley of Hartselle. Madison Rae Hicks of Joppa and Taylor Sibley of Hartselle each received a $1,000 scholarship from the Women’s Committee.

Adam Swader of Brewer was recognized as FFA Student of the Year.

Federation members reelected Mark Byrd, Billy Abercrombie, Gerry Holmes and Betty Kelsoe Cough as member of the board. They also approved a resolution opposing any law enforcement agency, of any level, to blatantly target farmers while transporting their harvest and/or equipment.

Cash and merchandise prizes valued at over $2,000 were presented to members in a random drawing.

Brian Harden, Alabama Farmers Federation director of governmental affairs, was guest speaker.
