Hartselle bowling teams advance to state championship

The Hartselle Tigers boys and girls bowling teams advanced to the AHSAA state championships with top-four finishes in the north sectionals in Tuscaloosa this past Friday.

The boys’ team finished fourth overall after qualifying second for bracket play. They defeated Mortimer Jordan 951-790 before falling to Sparkman 1,300-1,188 in the semifinals. The Tigers were led by James Simpson with a sixth-place finish individually by shooting 618. Andrew Simmons finished seventh by shooting 615 and Carter Coan finished eighth by shooting 607.

The girls’ team finished fourth overall. They defeated Paul W. Bryant 559-425 in the first round before falling to Sparkman 754-566 in the semifinals. Sydnee Lee led the Lady Tigers with a tenth-place finish individually by shooting 412. Callie Parker finished 15th by shooting 388, while Lorelei finished 17th, shooting 375.

The finals will be held in Gadsden Jan. 26-27.
