Priceville's Lady Bulldogs had the upper hand for more than three quarters before they fell behind and went on to suffer a heart-breaking loss to the Fyffe Lady Red Devils, 68-63, in a sub-regional playoff game at Priceville Gymnasium last Thursday night.
Priceville entered the contest as 2A, Area 14 champions with a 19-10 record. Fyffe came in as Area 13 runners-up with a 20-8 record.
The Lady Bulldogs grabbed an early lead and held a 19-14 advantage after one period. They also led 26-25 at halftime and 44-42 after three quarters.
Fyffe went ahead 52-50 on two free throws by Lacey Lewis with 4:34 left and never trailed after that.
However, the Lady Bulldogs managed to pull to within two points of tying the score with 1:02 left. A personal foul and a technical foul against the Lady Bulldogs followed with the result being a six-point deficit for Priceville.
"Priceville has a good team. They're well coached. It was difficult for us to come in here and win," Fyffe head coach Mike Cochran said. "Fortunately, we were able to make our free throws at the end and that turned out to be the difference in the game."
"My girls played their hearts out," Priceville head coach Stacey Lovett said. "I'm can't say in words how proud I am of them."
Stephanie Hardiman scored a game-high 20 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Eight of her points came in the final four minutes of the third period.
She also knocked down four straight free throws in the final period before fouling out with 2:20 left in the game.
Jessi Smith had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Marissa Chambers added nine points and 11 rebounds.
Fyffe's Lacey Lewis led her team in scoring with 19 points.
