Student wins wildlife contest
A Hartselle student is among the winners of the 2003 Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art Contest.
Megan Graves of Hartselle was the state-wide winner for the grades seven-nine age group. The contest was sponsored by the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries and Wildlife Forever.
State winners for the Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art Contest will be recognized at the fifth annual State-Fish Art Expo at Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., in June.
A massive art display will feature all the winning artwork and an award ceremony on June 14 will acknowledge artists.
Other scheduled events include celebrity autographs, fishing demonstrations, music, and fun activities for kids. This event is free and open to the public.
Johnson named to dean's list
Skadi Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Johnson of Somerville, is among the 1,000 students included on Harding University's dean's list.
Johnson is a sophomore majoring in child and family science. She is a graduate of A.P. Brewer High School.
Volunteer Center seeking youth
The Volunteer Center of Morgan County invites kids ages 10-12 to apply for its summer KIVS (Kids Interested in Volunteer Services) program. The Hartselle group will meet on Thursdays starting June 12 at 10 a.m.-noon and participate in the following activities:
June 12: Volunteers will work in the flower gardens and interact with residents at Sierra Springs Assisted Living Community.
June 19: Volunteers will address health issues and pull weeds at the Morgan County Extension Center.
June 26: Volunteers will sort food, clothes, and furniture at The Caring Place.
July 10: Volunteers will play bingo with residents at Sunshine Haven.
July 17: Volunteers will make cards and place mats for patients at Hartselle Medical Center.
July 24: Volunteers will paint and do yard work at Earth Park.
Each volunteer will receive a KIVS T-shirt. Volunteers are needed specifically for the Hartselle group.
