FLORETTE – Megan Brown hit a triple in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored on a sacrifice bunt to break a 4-all tie, as the Brewer Lady Patriots beat Cullman 6-4 Monday.
Angela Grochowsky pitched five innings and earned her second win of the season, as Brewer improved to 4-7 on the season.
The Lady Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, thanks in part to a Cullman error.
The Lady Bearcats tied the game in the third at 1-all before Brewer scored three in the bottom half of the frame. Mandy Brewer's triple to the fence scored two runs for the Lady Patriots. Brewer, who went 3 of 4 at the plate, later scored and also had a double.
Cullman cut in to Brewer's lead with two runs in the fourth and eventually tied the game at 4-all in the fifth.
That score remained until the bottom of the sixth inning.
After Brown tripled, Stephanie Grady laid down a sacrifice bunt. Brown's run proved to be the game winner.
Brown entered in the sixth to earn the save, pitching two innings and not allowing a hit.
Mandy Martin was 1 of 3 at the plate with two RBIs, while Brown was 1 of 1 with a triple.
