Fundraiser to help leukemia victim

The mother of a Hartselle High School volleyball player who is suffering from leukemia will be the beneficiary of a fundraiser conducted at Chick-Fil-A restaurant in Decatur on Mon., Sept. 20.
Stephanie Bonner, who is awaiting a bone marrow transplant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., will receive 10 percent of the proceeds taken in at Chick-Fil-A’s Beltline Road Location on that day. Her daughter, Kelsey Bonner, a junior at HHS, and her volleyball teammates are promoting the event.  A second daughter, HHS freshman Brianna Bonner, is also involved.
Stephanie was diagnosed with leukemia in September 2009 and went into remission following an initial series of treatments. She relapsed last May and became a candidate for a bone marrow transplant. She was recently admitted to the hospital after a donor was found and was being prepped for a transplant last week. She expects to be in the hospital for four to six weeks recuperating from the procedure. She said her doctors expect her to make a full recovery.  The fundraiser will provide the family assistance in meeting its medical expenses.
