e-sound off for the week of June 10, 2010

City needs to install sign
“It would be nice if the City of Hartselle would put a street sign up at the intersection of Sparkman Drive and Main Street. I work at a convenience store on 36 West and I can’t tell you how many people have stopped looking for the hospital or Hartselle High School. Why is there no sign showing Sparkman Street?”

Sounding off on alcohol sales
“No moving foward for Falkville, no money from sales, no new businesses, no money for schools, plus the fact that people buying beer in Decatur are going to be drinking through Falkville instead of buying it in Falkville and taking it home. I would rather have them buying it in Falkville and going home than buying it in Decatur and be drunk driving through Falkville from Decatur.”

Sounding off on schools
“Parents of students in Huntsville City Schools are questioning and demanding answers to Superintendent Dr. Ann Roy Moore’s decisions in handling budget cuts.
Hartselle parents should demand that Dr. Reed’s decisions be questioned also. It’s time that parents demanded our school board to be the boss of the superintendent, instead of the other way around. He works for them (us).
Parents should demand that each elementary school have a full-time music teacher on site at each school instead of “sharing.” The students are the losers and Dr. Reed is talking out of both sides of his mouth when he says he thinks of the children first. He doesn’t. He only thinks of penny-pinching for the new high school.
He has already cut custodial, cafeteria, and aides positions that affect the daily activities at each school. He says it hasn’t affected the students, but ask how many times an aide is transferred throughout the day from one student to the next.
It is ridiculous! The students are the losers!
Where is Dr. Reed going to get the extra money for the newly mandated safe room in the new high school that has to hold the whole student body for extreme weather and lock downs?
We can’t keep taking from the students to funnel into the new high school.
Our students are now being affected and it’s time that parents said, “Enough is enough!”
Call the school board members today and demand action! Then call the newspapers and tell them what you have demanded and the board members’ responses. Let’s get this in the papers – then we will see some results!
