Falkville, Danville FFA earn honors, launch plant sales
Congratulations are in order for the Falkville High School FFA forestry team, which recently placed first at the county contest. Their outstanding performance earned them a spot at the upcoming North District FFA Eliminations. Team members Kelsey Casteel, Meggie Bramlett, Talon Payne, Gloria Behan and Kira Ledbetter represented their school with skill and dedication, making both their school and community proud.
In Danville, the high school’s FFA chapter kicked off its annual plant sale April 14. The sale is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a lunch break from 12:30-1 p.m. Payments are accepted by cash or check. Available items include 18-count flower trays of impatiens and petunias for $15, 36-count vegetable flats featuring peppers and more for $20, or $5 for a six-pack. Tomato plants are temporarily sold out, but squash and okra will be available soon. Additional offerings include 6-inch pots with begonias and mosquito plants for $7 each or two for $10, windmill palms – cold-hardy and able to withstand single-digit temperatures – for $35 each, hanging baskets for $15 and macho ferns in 3-gallon containers for $20.
Seventh and eighth grade students at Falkville have also been busy this semester in the school greenhouse. They’ve been growing tomato and pepper plants, which are now available for purchase. Anyone interested can con-tact Nicole Drinkard Fields on Facebook for more information.
Also representing Falkville well was the FFA welding team, which recently competed at the North District FFA Welding Contest, hosted by Calhoun Community College. Team members Destiny Hargrove, Lane Romine, Weston Farr and Breck Finley showcased their talents and did a remarkable job representing their chapter.
