    Hartselle boys, girls tennis headed to state tournament

    The Hartselle boys and girls tennis teams are headed back to the AHSAA state championship following the section tournament. The girls held off Decatur to win the section, while the boys finished runnerup to Jasper.

    Girls

    Hartselle girls finished first with a score of 44, besting Decatur by 10. They got section titles from Caroline Sparks at No. 2 singles, Lily Reese at No. 3 and Katie Sloan at No. 4. Avie Broom finished runner-up at No. 1 singles. The doubles teams of Broom and Miller McLeod at No. 1 and Sloan and Brooklyn Engle at No. 3 won titles.

    Boys

    The Hartselle boys finished runner-up with 45 points to Jasper’s 57. They got section titles from Reid Collins at No. 1, Nolan Sparks at No. 2, and Sam Stone at No. 3. Marc Cera at No. 4, Cade Simmons at No. 5 and Wilder Reese at No. 6 each finished runner-up. Collins and Nolan Sparks were runner-up at No. 1, while Cera and Stone finished as the runner-up at No. 2 doubles.

    The teams will travel to Mobile for the AHSAA Championships. The boys finished runner-up to Mountain last season.
