James Gary Holmes

Eva A funeral service for James Gary Holmes, 74, was held Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim McCormick officiating. Burial was in Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Eva, Alabama. Mr. Holmes passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025. He was born January 13, 1951, in Cullman County, to William Thomas Holmes and Elizabeth Marie Burford Holmes. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, family member and friend. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Golden Rod Hatchery, as a Maintenance Operator. He was preceded in death by his parents. As a great man of God, he was a true believer who could rightly divide the Word, and shared with anyone who would listen. In the later part of his life, his passion for studying the truths of the Word created an excitement and desire which was contagious. His favorite Bible verse to quote was 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4. He would want his parting words to his family to be “Faith plus Nothing!” Survivors include his wife, Cara Henderson Holmes; his son, Brandon Holmes (Charisa); his daughters, Cari Smith (Dirk) and Kathryn Coats (Logan); brothers, Wallace Thad Holmes (Charlotte) and George Holmes (Jackie); grandchildren, Christina (Taylor), Constance (Austin), Faith, Elizabeth, Serenity, Lorelai, Gabe, Dalton (Kenleigh) and Nick; and great grandson. John Thurman. Pallbearers were Dirk Smith, Victor Banks, Thad Holmes, Keith Holmes, Jarrod McCormick, Adam Cobbs, and Dustin Cobbs.
