Hartselle soccer teams triumph on senior night

Hartselle High School hosted a memorable senior night for both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams April 3. The opponent for the evening was the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils, marking the second encounter of the season between the teams in 6A Area 13 competition.
The girls’ game showcased a spectacular offensive display, resulting in a commanding 10-0 victory, identical to their previous meeting against Mortimer Jordan. The scorers were Adelynn Mitchell, three goals (hat trick); Emma Barran, two goals (brace); Maggie Garnett, two goals (brace); Cara Beth Nelson, two goals (brace); and Kate Cooper and Katelyn Dolbeer had one goal apiece. The Lady Tigers demonstrated their dominance by consistently playing on the Mortimer Jordan side of the field.
Boys
Luke Vinson scored early in the first half, followed by Andrew O’Leary, who netted a goal with an assist from Rhett Spivey, bringing the score to 2-0 at halftime. The second half saw more action with Rhett Spivey scoring twice, and Kevin Davis and Luke Vinson each scoring with assists from Spivey. Mortimer Jordan managed to score the final goal of the game, but Hartselle emerged victorious with a score of 6-1.
Senior recognition
Between the games, the seniors from both teams were honored with plaques. The girls’ team is graduating three seniors, team captains Addison Button and Reese Newton and Maggie Garnett. The boys’ team is bidding farewell to six players plus the team manager, team captains Andrew O’Leary and Luke Vinson, Kevin Davis, Noah Gibson, Caleb Haley, Ethan Westendorf and manager Jayden Shekell.
Season records and upcoming games
With a season record of 14-3-1 (4-0), the Lady Tigers lead the 6A Area 13 and have three games left to play. Two area games at Jasper (April 7) and at Cullman (April 17), and a non-area match against Russellville on April 14. The first-place area winner will host the first game in the substate playoffs.
Holding a season record of 12-4-2 (3-1), the boys have two crucial area games on April 7 and April 15 against Jasper and Cullman, respectively. They are in second place in Area 13. The final game will be away at Randolph on April 17.
