Eugene Oakes

Laceys Spring A graveside funeral service and interment for Eugene Oakes, 73, was held Monday, March 31, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Hough Cemetery with Bro. Glenn Hamer officiating. Mr. Oakes was born Sunday, April 29, 1951, to Eugen Clark Oakes and Mary Elizabeth Edwards Oakes. He passed from this earth to his eternal home on March 28, 2025. Eugene was a simple country man who in his younger years loved hunting, boating and fishing. He was a kind man who was adored by his family and friends. Everyone who knew him loved him. He will be greatly missed. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gwenda Oakes Miller; a brother, Marc Oakes; and a niece, Michelle Miller. The only children he had were his nieces and their husbands and their children, who he considered as his own grandkids. His survivors include nieces, Marian Miller, Lisa Parrish (Marston), Jennifer Oakes (Dewayne), and his grandkids, Maranda Smart, Cody Thornberry, Mary Ellen Bloodworth, and Haillie and Damion Sloan. Pallbearers were Johnny Bloodworth, Cody Thornberry, Damion Sloan, Dewayne Sloan, and Tyler Fortenberry.
