Crestline students perform “Bugz” Musical
Special to the Enquirer
First and second graders at Crestline Elementary recently took the stage to perform Bugz, a mini musical directed by music teacher Liz Bass. The production, held for parents and community members, featured a variety of insects navigating the challenges of a shared picnic.
The cast included lightning bugs with glowing finger lights, butterflies soaring through the air, ladybugs performing “Be a Lady,” and an army of ants marching to “The Army Ant Song.” Even a pair of maggots made an appearance. The insects were drawn to a picnic filled with food, but their plans were disrupted by an unexpected guest: a stink bug.
The stink bug, eager to join the picnic, was shunned by the other insects because of his strong odor. After being encouraged by a kind bug to listen to the wise caterpillars, the stink bug found support from a praying mantis, who suggested a solution—covering the bugs with flowers to mask the unpleasant smell.
As darkness fell, the insects struggled to find their way, but fireflies lit the path. The army ants soon arrived to provide organization and security. The bugs ultimately enjoyed a night of feasting and fun before heading home.
By the end of the performance, the young actors delivered a message of teamwork and friendship, highlighting the importance of acceptance and cooperation.
