Prep roundup: Hartselle sweeps doubleheader with Muscle Shoals
Cruise Baker and Cole Miles drove in two runs each as Hartselle held off a late Muscle Shoals rally to pick up a 5-4 win in the first game of an area baseball doubleheader on March 20.
The Tigers scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to build a 5-2 lead before Muscle Shoals rallied to score twice in the bottom of the seventh. The Trojans had runners at first and second when Nelms got a groundout to end the game. Braden Weathers singled twice and drove in a run for the Tigers, while Easton Nelms added one hit. Carter Lee pitched 4 2/3 innings for the win, allowing one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts. Nelms pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out two.
Asher Doepel homered, tripled and drove in seven runs to lead Hartselle in a 12-0 victory in the finale. Cain Falciani had a triple and one RBI for the Tigers, while Cole Miles added one RBI.
Four Hartselle pitchers combined on a five-inning no-hitter for the Tigers, with Carson Wilson working two innings with two strikeouts.
Winston County 10, Falkville 5: Denver Comstock singled and drove in a run for Falkville on Thursday. Judson Tew had two hits for the Blue Devils.
Guntersville 10-4, Brewer 0-0: Logan Paseur, Cole Drinkard and Nathan Butler had one hit each for Brewer in game one on Thursday.
Drinkard singled to account for Brewer’s lone hit in the finale. Guntersville’s Jack Lenior pitched six innings for the win, striking out 11. Russellville 7-10, Priceville 2-2: Ethan Sherwood had two hits, including a double, and one RBI for Priceville in game one on Thursday. Sawyer Mims drove in one run for the Bulldogs.
Brody Collins had a solo homer for Priceville in the finale, while Mims added an RBI single.
Softball
West Morgan 5, Danville 2: Chloe Thorn doubled and drove in three runs to lead West Morgan on Thursday.
Brooklyn Hunt and Macie Treadway had two hits and one RBI each for the Rebels, while Lydia Hughes added three hits. Chasity Rikard worked all seven innings in the circle for the win, striking out eight.
Aubrey Reed had one hit and one RBI for Danville.
Ardmore 12, Brewer 2: Ellie Riley led Ardmore with three hits, including a double, and three RBIs on Thursday.
Makena Hall had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs for the Tigers, while Addison Mikel added two hits and two RBIs. Mikel pitched five innings for the win, striking out four.
Taylor Pellam and Abby Summerford had one hit and one RBI each for Brewer.
East Limestone 11, Priceville 3: Miami Wilcox had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs
Prep, Page B-2 to lead East Limestone on Thursday.
Mahaley Lassie had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs and Kailey Matthews had three hits, including a solo home run. Abby Thompson pitched three innings for the win, striking out four.
Thompson 1, Hartselle 0: Thompson scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to pick up a walk-off win on Thursday.
Bailey Lawrence pitched seven strong innings for the Tigers, allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts. Brityan Godfrey, Katie Norgard and Zoe Hitt had one hit each.
