Hartselle can’t keep pace in loss to Hewitt-Trussville

The luck of the Irish wasn’t on the side of Hartselle last week in a St. Patrick’s Day loss.
Maybe it was the lack of green in their red and white uniforms, but in a game the Tigers would just as soon forget, Hartselle took its lumps in a 10-2 loss to Hewitt-Trussville.
“I think the biggest thing for us is what can we learn from this? Because there’s something we can learn from every loss,” said Hartselle head coach Anna Hanners. “If you want to say you can’t learn anything from that, then how are you growing?” Hewitt-Trussville got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first two innings, before exploding for seven runs in the third.
Despite this, Hanners’ main concern lied with her offense. The Tigers finished the game with 10 hits, just three shy of their opponent, but managed just two runs.
“When people are on base, we have to get them in,” Hanners said. “We left way too many people on base.” “We also had some crucial errors that killed us,” Hanners added.
Brityan Godfrey led Hartselle with three hits. Katie Norgard had two hits and an RBI, while Hatsumi Peterson hit a solo home run.
The loss drops Hartselle to 7-6-1 on the season. The Tigers have played a tough schedule so far, including games against Thompson, West Limestone, Oak Mountain and Homewood, hoping they will prepare them come postseason.
“We play these teams to get better and to challenge us. If we’re not playing teams that are better than us, then we’re not going to improve,” Hanners said.
