Donald Samuel Armes
Falkville A funeral service for Donald Samuel Armes, 87, was held Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the U.S. Navy Chaplain officiating. Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens. Mr. Armes passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at his residence. He was born October 1, 1937, in Kentucky, to Argus Brengle Armes and Essie Corinne Stith Armes. Mr. Armes spent many years with the Boy Scouts of America where he was an Eagle Scout and then served as a Scout Master. He attended the University of Louisville and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and also played basketball. Mr. Armes was a veteran and retired Commander in the United States Navy. He could throw a softball in excess of 85 MPH and was one of the most feared pitchers during the 1960’s. For his 80th birthday, in 2017, he did a tandem skydive, which proved he was an adventurer. He trained in the Naval Academy to be a pilot and the same training plane he flew is on display at Veterans Park in Priceville today. Mr. Armes was also the owner and operator of Don’s Hardware in Decatur from 1976 to 2024. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother and sister-in-law, Argus “Gus” and Jo Armes. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Parish Armes; daughters, Deborah Armes, Laura Soriano (Carl) and Donna Chappell (Donnie); sons, Kevin Armes (Elizabeth) and David Armes (Zerlinda); eighteen grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Kevin Armes, David Armes, Donnie Chappell, Carl Sariano, Mark Champion, and Kevin Hunter. Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons, Cameron Armes, Joseph Smith, Luca Soriano, Caleb Chappell, Joshua Chappell, Jacob Chappell, Joseph Chappell, Jonathan Chappell, Ethan Armes and Jordan Chavers. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Affinity Hospice for their phenomenal care.
