Tigers drop three in South Alabama kickoff

The Tigers traveled to Gulf Shores for four games in the PBR Alabama South Kickoff Feb. 21-22. Hartselle lost to Spain Park, Fairhope and Tuscaloosa County but defeated Baldwin County.
Spain Park 6, Hartselle 5 The Tigers rallied but came up short in a 6-5 loss to Spain Park Feb. 21. They fell behind 5-2 in the second before drawing even at 5-5 with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Spain Park scored the gamewinning run in the bottom of the sixth.
Carter Lee tripled and had two RBIs to lead Hartselle. Cruise Baker added two hits. Cole Griffin doubled and drove in a run, while Eli King and Cain Falciani each had an RBI. Jace Meadows got the start and gave up five runs, three earned, on four hits in 1.1 innings. Carson Wilson took the loss after giving up a run in 4.2 innings of relief while striking out five.
Hartselle 5, Baldwin County 2
Baldwin County scored two runs in the top of the first to jump out early on the Tigers. Hartselle took the lead when they scored four runs in the bottom of the second and another in the bottom of the fourth for a 5-2 win.
Lee pitched a complete game two-hitter while allowing two runs in getting a much-needed victory for the Tigers. He struck out three in seven innings.
Easton Nelms had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Tigers. Ty Marsh and Sam Gillette each had a hit and an RBI.
Fairhope 6, Hartselle 0
Gillette had two hits to lead Hartselle in their 6-0 loss to Fairhope. Nelms, Baker and Lee each had a hit. Connor Stiles took the loss after giving up six runs, four earned, on three hits in four innings.
Tuscaloosa County 6, Hartselle 5
Tuscaloosa County scored four runs in the first two innings to take a 4-0 lead in their 6-5 win over the Tigers. Hartselle scored two runs in the second, a run in the third and two in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5. The Wildcats scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.
Marsh had two hits, including a home run, to lead Hartselle. Lee, Gillette and Whit Crisler each had a hit and a run scored. Cain Falciani had an RBI and a stolen base.
Nelms took the loss after giving up a run in three innings of relief. He allowed a hit while striking out five. Asher Doepel started the game and gave up four runs on five hits in two innings. Marsh gave up a run on two hits in relief of Doepel.
Upcoming games
The Tigers (3-3) will travel to Hoover for the Perfect Game High School Showcase at the Hoover Met Complex. They will open with Gatewood (Ga.) on Thursday at 4 p.m. Other teams in Hartselle’s bracket include Helena, Bob Jones and Cullman. The showcase continues through March 1.
