Lady Tigers drop home opener to Madison County

The Hartselle Lady Tigers dropped their home opener to Madison County Feb. 18.
Katie Norgard got the Lady Tigers on the board in the bottom of the first when she singled to center field, driving home KJ Prater. Brit Godfrey, who walked before Norgard’s hit, advanced to second on the play.
Madison County got to Hartselle’s starting pitcher, Kaelyn Perdue, in the second when they scored five runs on four hits and two batters hit by a pitch. Kenlee Smothers entered the game after the fifth run and got the Lady Tigers out of the inning.
Perdue walked to open the bottom of the second. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball. Lily Douglas drove her home with a fielder’s choice to make the score 5-2.
The game remained 5-2 until the bottom of the fifth when Norgard singled to drive home Baylie Singleton, who walked to open the inning.
Norgard finished with three singles and two RBIs to lead Hartselle. Morgan Osborn had the Lady Tigers’ only other hit.
Perdue took the loss after giving up five runs on five hits in 1.2 innings. Smothers pitched 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing six hits.
