The Hartselle Police Department has announced Officer Joshua Garrison as 2024’s Officer of the Year. Garrison, who said he dreamed of being a police officer since he was a child, was nominated by his peers after performing exceedingly well during a high-pressure call and crime scene security.
Each quarter, members of the Hartselle Police Department, from administration to leadership and every role in between, nominate an Officer of the Quarter and at the end of each year one of those officers is selected to be honored as Officer of the Year.
Garrison said he is truly honored by the recognition. “It was definitely one of my career goals when I signed on to the agency. I’m a go-getter; I’m kind of all or nothing and I enjoy doing the job and working with the public, and I appreciate my colleagues honoring me,” he said. “The support we have in Hartselle makes it easier.” On his dream of being a police officer, Garrison said he has always wanted to be in a role that could have a positive impact on someone.
“I love people. I love the public. Most of the time (when) the public is involved with us it’s not good, but I want to leave every interaction with the public being thanked for what I did. I want to be a light in a dark moment,” he said.
