Playing against Class 5A, No. 2 Scottsboro in the Northwest Regional’s Sweet 16, the No. 6 Bulldogs fell behind 26-6 early in the second quarter and couldn’t come back, ultimately falling 63-31.
“Our game plan was to force them to make 3-pointers because they have low percentage shooters, but they drive so good. They can really attack you downhill,” said Priceville head coach Shane Childress. “They came out and banked in a 3-pointer and then made another one right after, and I knew we were in trouble. Our game plan backfired.”
The Bulldogs also struggled to score, managing just single digits in all but one quarter.
“They got in the gaps so easily and owned the space,” Childress said.
Leah Childress led Priceville in scoring with 19 points, while Lillyan Bloodworth had seven.
Leah Childress, the daughter of Shane, is among four seniors (Bloodworth, Ella Hudson, Amberleigh Dean) graduating from Priceville this year.
“This is hard,” an emotional Leah Childress said after the game. “Getting to play for my dad and with my sisters, it’s been some of the best moments of my life.”
