Falkville A funeral service for Bobby Edmon Murphy ,86, of Falkville was held Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM at First Bible Church in Decatur with Dr. Steve Bateman and Pastor Paul Chesser officiating and the eulogy given by John Godwin. Burial was in the Roselawn Cemetery with military honors and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Murphy, who was born September 12, 1938, in Morgan County to Lemuel Edmon Murphy and Vernard Day Murphy, died on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Huntsville Hospital. Mr. Murphy was a believer in Jesus Christ and a member of First Bible Church in Decatur. He was a lifelong resident of Morgan County, a 1956 graduate of Decatur High School and was one of “Shorty’s Boys,” having played football for Coach Shorty Ogle. He attended Auburn University where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. He was an Eagle Scout and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Bobby had a career that spanned over 40 years in the Insurance Business as owner of the Bobby Murphy Agency, but his real love was his horse and cattle farm. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Syble Shelton Murphy; daughter, Amy Murphy Godwin (John); brother, Lamar Murphy; three grandchildren that he dearly loved, Virginia Tyler Godwin Meadows (Bradley), Sara Shelton Godwin Carnley (Josh), and Redding Maxwell Godwin; six great-grandchildren, Lola Hazel Meadows, Sims Meadows, Maggie George Meadows, June Carnley, Win Carnley, and Murphy Carnley. Pallbearers were Max Godwin, Bradley Meadows, Josh Carnley, Zac Littrell, Jeff Black, Glen Whiteside, and Donnie Haney. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Bible Church or to the Neighborhood Christian Center in Decatur.
