Barrels of Love food drive set to kick off Saturday
Special to the Enquirer
Morgan County’s annual Barrels of Love food drive is back, aiming to fight hunger and support those in need through a community-wide effort. This year’s campaign kicks off Friday and culminates with Collection Day Feb. 28, from 8 a.m. to noon at a new location-the Beltline Church of Christ gymnasium, located at 2159 Beltline Road SW in Decatur.
The Barrels of Love initiative is an industry-sponsored non-perishable food drive that benefits local food pantries and backpack programs, ensuring that individuals and families in Morgan County have access to essential food supplies.
How to Participate
Businesses, organizations and individuals can all take part in the drive: Hold a Company Drive: Businesses are encouraged to place collection boxes at their workplaces to gather non-perishable food donations from employees and customers. Boxes can be picked up starting Feb. 14 at either the United Way of Morgan County or the Committee on Church Cooperation-or participants may use their own. No barrels will be distributed this year.
Donate as an individual: Those who want to contribute can collect food items and drop them off at the Beltline Church of Christ gymnasium Feb. 28, between 8 a.m. and noon.
Monetary donations: Those interested in making a financial contribution can contact event organizers for more information.
Volunteers will be on-site at the Beltline Church of Christ to assist with unloading donations. Participants are asked to pull around to the back of the gymnasium for drop-offs.
