State surplus sale begins Saturday
Special to the Enquirer
A wide range of surplus items, including cars, trucks, office furniture and industrial equipment, will be up for bid starting Saturday, in the Alabama State Surplus Property online auction. The auction, hosted by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), will run from 7:30 a.m. on Saturday through 6 p.m. Feb. 9.
Those interested in participating can find infor-mation on how to register as a qualified bidder at ADECA’s auction page. Starting Saturday, all auction items will be posted at GovDeals Alabama Surplus.
The auction includes property no longer needed by state and federal agencies, along with items voluntarily abandoned at several airports in the Southeast. ADECA’s Surplus Property Division manages these items, offering them for public sale through online bidding.
For those who prefer to inspect items in person, ADECA will offer public viewing at its Montgomery Distribution Center, located at 4590 Mobile Highway, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 5-7. A selection of photos showcasing some of the auction items can be viewed on ADECA’s Flickr page.
ADECA holds surplus property auctions periodically throughout the year, but municipalities, county governments, state agencies and qualified nonprofit organizations can access surplus items at any time. All items are sold “as is” with no guar-antees, and all sales are final once the property is picked up and removed.
In addition to managing surplus property auctions, ADECA oversees a variety of grant programs supporting law enforcement, victim services, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management, broadband expansion and recreation development.
