David Blackwood

Hartselle David Bartee Blackwood, 91, of Hartselle, passed away on January 26, 2025. David was a familiar and steadfast presence in the Decatur community he called home, living for many years at 718 5th Ave SE, caring for his beloved mother until her passing. Known for wearing a light blue shortsleeved shirt and dark pants, he was often seen on morning walks around the Beltline Mall, a routine he enjoyed nearly every day for decades. David had a contagious laugh and a love for jokes and storytelling, never turning down an opportunity to engage in conversation, whether with family, friends, or complete strangers, about the news of the day or the state of the Alabama football program. He had a love of reading and tinkering with electronics, exemplifying his deep sense of curiosity. Born November 1, 1933, David was the youngest son of Jessie Thomas Blackwood and Jessie Ruth Bartee. A lifelong resident of Morgan County, he is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jesse, Julian, and James. He is survived by his nephew, Charles Blackwood and niece, Pat Dobbs, both of Hartselle. A Graveside service to honor David’s life was held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 11:00AM at Gurley cemetery with Bro. Mike Gunter officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
