Catherine Puckett Hill
Danville Wife, mother, daughter, niece, aunt, cousin, neighbor, co-worker, friend–no one could tell which title Catherine wore more proudly. She was also a librarian, English teacher, day care director, swimsuit model, hospitable homemaker, baby rocker, memory maker, cruciverbalist, family vacationer, game player, dress maker, mentor, comforter, protector, counselor, listener, prayer warrior, and a captivating storyteller and book reader. Being Kaki to her grand and great-grandchildren was probably her most cherished title; reading to them one of her greatest joys. Catherine was born and raised in Danville, Alabama, and professed Christ at the age of 12. She received her teaching degree from Florence State College (now UNA), where she also hung the moon for a young Hollis Hill, Jr., who spent the rest of his life gazing at her. They married in 1957 at her childhood church and together raised their children, then embraced their children’s spouses and their families as their own. Catherine earned a master’s degree at UAB and retired from Homewood City Schools as the media specialist at Edgewood Elementary. She was a long-time active member of Dawson Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama; however, Catherine recently rejoined her childhood church, Johnson Chapel in Danville, to confidently symbolize her homecoming. Her homecoming was preceded by her parents, Frank and Dorothy Puckett; her beloved husband, Hollis Hill, Jr.; and their precious infant daughter, Laura Jane Hill. Kaki leaves a legacy of agape love to her family: sister, Carolyn Marshall; children, Emily Roberts (Mark), Scott Hill (Sheila), Amy Sellers (Stephen), and Martha Catchings (Benjamin); and her grand and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Juliet, Emmett and August Barrett, Laura, Trey, J.R., Sarah Jane, William and Hannah Russell, Aaron Barrett, Sarah LaPotin, Cathy, Austin, Eli, and Reed Webb, Joni and Daniel Caver, Kal Daedalus, Paige Morgan, Haven Caver, Malory, TJ, Caleb, Carley and Camden Smith, Eric Stewart, Catherine Sellers, Ashlee Sellers, Frankie Catchings and Kasey Catchings. Friends and family celebrated Catherine’s homecoming at Johnson Chapel Methodist Church, 1260 North Johnson Chapel Road, Danville, Alabama 35619 on Sunday, February 2, 2025. The service, immediately followed by graveside, was held at two o’clock in the afternoon with Pastor Trey Russell officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
