Morgan County 4-H Camp registration now open
Registration is officially open for the 2025 Morgan County 4-H Summer Camp. The camp will be held from June 30 through July 2. It’s open to kids aged 9-13 as of Jan. 1 and the cost is $175, which covers all activities, meals and transportation. A $100 deposit is due at registration or by Feb. 27, with the remaining balance due by April 25.
You can register through 4H Online if you have an account. If you don’t, contact Juliana Markham at 256612-6945, and she will be happy to assist you. You can pay the deposit via check, money order, or online with a card. To pay by card, call the office at 256-773-2549.
This year’s camp theme is DISCO, promising a lot of fun for everyone! Space is limited to just 15 campers from Morgan County, so don’t wait-sign up today.
Shady Grove Baptist Church news Shady Grove Baptist Church is proud to announce the recent graduates from its congregation. Lillie Dobbins graduated from Athens State University on Dec. 7 with a bachelor’s degree in English, with a minor in English Language Arts Education, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 3.9 GPA. Her proud grandparents are Mac and Evon Vest. Kaitlin Faulkner Asher graduated from the University of North Alabama on Dec. 13 with a Master of Education in instructional leadership. She is currently teaching at Austin Middle School, and her grandparents are Dale and Betty Boyd. Gar-rett Vest graduated from Auburn University on Dec. 14 with a degree in information systems management. His grandparents are Virgil and Jane Vest. Breanna Gray, also a graduate of Auburn University on Dec. 14, earned a degree in biomedical sciences. Her grandparents are Patsie and Harvey McCleskey. Josh Phillips graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Dec. 16 with a Bachelor of Science in computer science. His proud wife is Carden Roden Phillips.
The church also celebrates two new arriv-als. Hershel “Beau” Wilhite was born Dec. 19, 2024, weighing 9 lbs. 3 oz. and measuring 19 inches long. His parents are Blake and Kayla Wilhite, and his proud great-grandmother is Glenda Yarbrough. Jackson “Jack” Westly Sparks was born Dec. 30, 2024, weighing 7 lbs. 4 oz. and measuring 20 inches. His parents are Grant and Melissa Sparks, and his grandparents are Todd and Wendy Pike and Emily and Keith Sparks. His great-grandparents are Chesterleene Pike, Rev. Charles and Phyllis Sparks, and Kenneth and Glenda Bolton.
Falkville FFA news The Falkville FFA Chapter held their January meeting last week, where they discussed upcoming competitions and highlighted their community service projects. The chapter also shared the success of their recent fruit sale, which brought in a great profit thanks to generous donations. They introduced the seventh and eighth grade officers for the second semester and ended the meeting with a fun head-to-head activity. A total of 151 members attended the meeting.
