Burks career-high leads Lady Tigers past Decatur

Hannah Burks finished with a careerhigh 34 points to help lead the 6A no. 3 Hartselle Lady Tigers to a 58-45 win on the road at Decatur in area play.
Burks finished with 19 points in the first half as the Lady Tigers led 36-12 at halftime. Hartselle led 14-6 after the first quarter. Mary Frances Itsede had nine points in the first half, while Anna Hampton Burroughs added five. The third quarter saw both teams finish with 12 points, making the score 48-24 heading into the fourth quarter. Burks added 10 points in the quarter.
The Lady Red Raiders outscored the Lady Tigers 21-10 in the final quarter, but the Hartselle Lady Tigers (21-3, 5-0) prevailed.
Itsede finished with 12 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists. Burroughs added five assists, four steals and four rebounds.

Decatur 71, Hartselle 34 The Hartselle Tigers dropped to 9-14 overall and 2-3 in area play after falling 71-34 to Decatur.
The Red Raiders jumped out to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter. The Tigers battled back in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 25-23 with less than five seconds remaining, but Decatur hit a 70-foot three-pointer as the buzzer sounded following a missed Tigers’ shot.
The shot at the buzzer changed the momentum heading into the second half as the Red Raiders outscored Hartselle 43-11 in the second half to get the win.
Gray Bennich finished with 11 points and four rebounds to lead Hartselle. Ty Odom had eight points and four rebounds, while Asa Priola had six points.
