TVA, local power companies working to manage record-low temps
The Tennessee Valley Authority is asking for the public’s help to conserve power as record-low temperatures put pressure on the power grid, according to a statement released by Hartselle Utilities today.
The TVA encourages a few steps to help conserve energy:
- Set your thermostat to 68°F or the lowest comfortable and safe temperature, and reduce heating in unoccupied rooms.
- Turn off lights and unplug electronics in rooms that are not in use.
- Delay using large appliances such as washers, dryers, and dishwashers until the request is lifted.
- Take shorter showers to reduce hot water usage.
- Dress warmly and in layers to stay comfortable while using less energy
- Seal windows and doors to prevent drafts and retain heat inside your home
This request applies to all residential, commercial and industrial power consumers across the region.
By taking these measures, the TVA said, the public can collectively contribute to help safeguard the community against potential disruptions.
These steps are vital to maintaining power system stability, avoiding service interruptions, and ensuring a reliable supply of electricity during this period of high demand.
