Courthouse renovations to temporarily close second-floor entrance
Special to the Enquirer
Effective Monday, the second-floor entrance on the north side of the Morgan County Courthouse will be closed to the public for several months due to renovations to the building, according to County Commission Chairman Ray Long.
During this closure, citizens doing business at the courthouse are asked to park in the Lee Street parking lots and use the first-floor entrance. Parking lots adjacent to the courthouse on Line and Cain streets are restricted to courthouse staff vehicles.
The ongoing courthouse renovations include a new heating and cooling system throughout the building, and the addition of two waiting rooms. The public is asked to use caution while conducting business at the courthouse as construction crews will be working in the hallways of the impacted areas.
“We appreciate the public being patient with this inconvenience while this much-needed work is being conducted,” Long said. “Customer parking will be adequate on the south side of the building.”
Long reminded citizens many county services such as purchasing vehicle tags and renewal of driver licenses can be done online. Also, county offices in Hartselle and Cotaco are available for some county services.
The courthouse is closed on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.
Updated information on the renovations will be made periodically on the Morgan County Commission Facebook page.
