Travel down the yellow brick road with students from a local homeschool group as they present their production of The Wizard of Oz.
The cast features Lilly Beth Cress as Dorothy, Colin Butcher as the Cowardly Lion, Joshua Minnon as the Scarecrow and Ellis Howard as the Tin Man. The Wicked Witch of the West will be played by Anna Orr, and Katie Claire Butcher will play Glenda, the Good Witch. The students come together a couple of days each week for classes, including a drama class taught by Erika Ladner. The classes culminate in a production which usually involves the entire student body. “I think it’s great,” Bridgette Guest, whose three children will be in the play. “The little kids are going to do what the big kids do, so they can be great role models.” In the past, homeschool students from all over north Alabama have staged familiar plays including “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” and “Peter Pan” and others.
The Wizard of Oz will be presented at 7 p.m. Jan. 23-24, at Fairview Baptist Church, 4511 Danville Road S.W., Decatur. Doors will open at 6:15pm. Tickets are $8 at the door. Concessions will be available.
