Lady Tigers strengthens lead in area play

The Hartselle Lady Tigers strengthened their lead in area play with two road wins over Athens and Muscle Shoals last week. The Lady Tigers improved to 19-3 overall and 4-0 in area play.
Hartselle 56, Muscle Shoals 44
The Lady Tigers rebounded from an early deficit to storm past Muscle Shoals for a 56-44 win to move to 4-0 in area play. The Lady Trojans took a 14-11 lead following the first quarter, but it was all Hartselle for the next three quarters.
The Lady Tigers stormed back in the second quarter by outsourcing Muscle Shoals 17-8 to take a 28-22 lead at the half.They extended their lead to 45-34 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Lady Tigers outscore the Lady Trojans 11-10 to secure the 12-point victory.
Hannah Burks finished with 17 points and five rebounds to lead Hartselle. Mary Frances Itsede added another double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds. Anna Hampton Burroughs had eight points and four assists. Karson Boyer and Elsie Boyd each had seven points, while Ella Springer finished with six.
Hartselle 67, Athens 49 The Lady Tigers found themselves in an early battle in their area road game at Athens. Hartselle jumped out to a 21-15 first quarter lead. However, Athens was able to cut the lead to three at halftime after outscoring the Lady Tigers 14-12 in the second quarter.
Hartselle showed their dominance in the third quarter as the defense held Athens to eight points, while the offense scored 20 points to take a 53-37 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Tigers secured the 18-point victory by outscoring the Lady Golden Eagles 14-12 in the final eight minutes.
Burks led the way with 19 points. Itsede finished with a double-double, 15 points and 14 rebounds, while adding four steals and two assists. Burroughs had her first career doubledouble with 11 points and 10 assists.
