Holiday events in historic downtown see success
Special to the Enquirer
Downtown Hartselle was aglow with holiday cheer this season, thanks to participation in the annual window display contest and treasure hunt.
These events, which are coordinated by Laura Ritch, owner of Main Street West Gallery, and the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce, brought a festive touch to downtown and encouraged locals and tourists alike to shop and celebrate the season.
Windows Wonderland, now in its fourth year, added an extra sparkle to Main Street. Participating merchants competed for the best holiday window display, with the goal of spreading holiday cheer and inspiring the community to shop local. This year’s winners are: Zoey’s Downtown, first place; Hartselle Mercantile on Main, second place; The Robin’s Nest, third place; and Sherry’s Sparkle, honorable mention. This year a new category was introduced. MARMAC won the Favorite Holiday Window category while WORN AGAIN and Sadie’s Boutique tied for second.
Additionally, the downtown treasure hunt concluded Jan. 4. The event encouraged participants to explore downtown Hartselle while shopping. Organizers said the event was a great success. Participants picked up treasure hunt maps at downtown businesses, each marked with a yellow dot. Hidden treasures offered chances to win the grand prize, which included a $500 gift certificate, and a gift basket filled with local goods.
While the treasure hunt saw about 100 fewer participants this year compared to last year, the event still enjoyed a strong turnout and significant community engagement.
