Sarah Adams knows how to write a great rom-com where the characters are incredibly relatable. There’s just enough raw emotion and sass to keep you turning the page for more. You can find this best-selling book along with Adams’ others at the library today!
“The Marriage Portrait” By Maggie O’Farrell Lucrezia de Medici was the fifth child of the Duke and Duchess of Tuscany, born in 1545. Her oldest sister Maria is supposed to wed Alfonso II, soon to be named the Duke of Ferrara, when she dies unexpectantly leaving the place open for Lucrezia to fill.
Lucrezia is still a child and does not want to get married, but her parents give her no option as it is a political decision. Lucrezia reluctantly agrees and tries to have hope that she and Alfonso will have a happy future together. This hope is cut short when they arrive at court. Alfonso is different in this setting than he was at their honeymoon cottage. He is attentive and caring one moment and cruel the next. When Lucrezia fails to produce an heir, Alfonso becomes stranger still. Lucrezia must submit to any wild whim he thinks up and hope to make it through another day until one day she has had enough. She believes he will kill her, but she will have a say in when and how.
