Susan Ferrell Martin
Decatur A funeral service for Susan Ferrell Martin was held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, in the Peck Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 PM with Brother Clayton Speed officiating. The burial was in Valhalla Cemetery. Susan went to be with her Lord and savior on December 31, 2024. She was born on October 29, 1953, in Montgomery, Alabama. Her parents were Miller Lee Ferrell and Ann East Ferrell. Susan spent her childhood and teenage years in Jackson, Mississippi. She graduated from Wingfield High School in 1971. Susan was a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church where her dad was on staff. She made many lifelong friends while in Jackson. She attended Hinds Community College and graduated from Delta State University in 1977 with a degree in social work. She was a social worker at Bolivar County Hospital in Cleveland, Mississippi. She later became the director of consultation and education for the Greenville, Mississippi Regional Mental Health Center.
At Delta State, Susan met Steve Martin in 1975. They were married on August 6, 1977. They loved and cared for each other for 47 years of marriage. Steve and Susan were blessed with two daughters, Stephanie Stone (Jared) of Hartselle and Bethanie Omiecinski (Jeff) of Chicago, Ill. Susan truly loved her daughters with the type of love only a mom could share. Susan had four grandsons, Henry Omiecinski, Easton, Ezekiel and Eli Stone. They were the lights of Susan’s life. She adored them and loved spending family time with them. Susan was a devout Christian and served in several leadership roles in the many churches that she and her family attended. She had a beautiful voice and sang in several church choirs. She also was the director of the Acteens group at First Baptist, Edmond, Okla. She really enjoyed working with pre-teen and teenage girls. She was most recently a member of First Baptist Church in Hartselle. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Ann Ferrell; her brother, Stephen Ferrell; her mother-inlaw, Jean Martin; and her father-in-law, Hugh Martin. She is survived by her husband, Steve Martin; her daughters, Stephanie Stone and Bethanie Omiecinski; her sonsin-law, Jared Stone and Jeff Omieclnski; and her grandsons, Henry Omiecinski, Easton, Ezekiel and Eli Stone. She is also survived by her brothers David Ferrell (Lucy), and Greg Ferrell; her nieces, Emily and Mary Ferell and her great nephew, Miller Faris.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The BUDS (Bringing Up Down Syndrome) Organization or to First Baptist Church Hartselle.
