Bert Collins
Eva Funeral services for Bert Collins, 86, were Friday, January 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Westside Baptist Church with Bro. Clyde Ledlow and Bro. Gary Peebles officiating, and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Eva Cemetery. Mr. Collins passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, at his residence. He was born March 12, 1938, in Cullman County, to Bert Lee Collins, Sr. and Lura Jane Swafford Collins. Bert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carolyn Cameron. Bert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was saved in 1974 after the tornado. He retired from the military after 21 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. Bert and his wife Marie moved to Eva, Alabama in 1981 and built B & M Food Mart in 1985 which they ran for 10 years. They also ran Downtown Pizza for six years. Aside from these three accomplishments Bert had many more titles to be proud of. He organized Veterans Park in Eva with Jim Henderson. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church, a former Eva councilman and an Alabama fan. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He was also a Mason and a Shriner.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Baxley Collins; his son, Joey Collins (Tresa); his daughter, Kim Woods; and his brother, Wyman “Skeeter” Collins. Pallbearers were Jonathan Collins, Brighton Collins, Bristol Collins, Kent Chambers, Brad Williams, Baxley Collins, Wyman “Skeeter” Collins, Gary Livingston and Dewayne Ryals. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) at P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301).
